Identify your skin type

Skin care guide

Our skin is as unique as we are. It not only reflects our external beauty, but also provides insight into our health and lifestyle. To ensure the best possible care for your skin, it is crucial to understand your skin type. This guide will help you determine your skin type and find the right care.

The 5 skin types:

  1. Normal skin: Balanced moisture content, soft skin feel, no noticeable dryness or oiliness.
  2. Dry skin: Rough skin feeling, feeling of tension, flaking, fine pores, prone to wrinkles. Needs intensive moisturizing care.
  3. Oily skin: Shiny surface, large pores, blemishes, pimples. Care should regulate sebum production.
  4. Combination skin: Combination of oily T-zone and dry cheeks. Requires balanced care for both areas.
  5. Sensitive skin: Prone to redness, irritation, itching. Needs particularly mild and soothing care.

Step 1: Cleaning as a basis

The basis for any skin type determination is a thorough cleansing of your face. Free your skin of any makeup residue, dirt and pollutants to get the clearest picture possible.

Step 2: The observation phase

About 30 minutes after cleansing, take a close look at your face in the mirror. Look for areas that look dry or oily/shiny. Do you feel tight? Is there redness or irritation? Take time to analyze your pores - are they rather large or small?

Skin type 1: Normal skin

The lucky owners of normal skin have a balanced moisture content and adequate sebum production. Neither dryness nor oiliness are noticeable. The skin feels soft and supple, without any feeling of tightness or annoying redness.

Skin type 2: Dry skin

Dry skin tends to feel rough, often accompanied by flaking or even small cracks. The pores are fine, but the skin can quickly become tight and is prone to premature wrinkles. Dry skin requires a lot of moisture and lipid-rich care products.

Skin type 3: Oily skin

Oily skin is often recognizable by a shine on the surface of the skin. Large pores, blemishes and possibly even spots are typical. Causes can range from genetic predisposition to hormonal changes. The right care can help regulate sebum production and combat blemishes.

Skin type 4: combination skin

Combination skin is a combination of oily and dry areas. Usually the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) is oily, while the cheeks and possibly the eye area are dry. This skin type often requires differentiated care to meet both needs.

Skin type 5: Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin can occur in any skin type, but sensitive skin tends to quickly become red, irritated and itchy. It reacts sensitively to external influences such as weather, environmental factors and also certain ingredients in products. The right care should be soothing and gentle on the skin.

Identifying your skin type is the first step to successful skin care. Use products that are specifically tailored to your needs to achieve optimal results. It is important to note that your skin condition and needs can change over time, so it is advisable to regularly check and adjust your skin care routine. Healthy and well-cared-for skin is the key to radiant self-confidence.

At Såpe, we make sure to develop products that are suitable for every skin type. Our Audrey facial oil helps with skin that is prone to blemishes as well as skin that simply needs intensive moisture.
